Six high school students from around the state have been chosen to participate in an amazing opportunity: assist James Beard Award-winning chefs at a high-profile event at one of Wisconsin’s premier resorts. The students are all participants in their high school’s ProStart program and were nominated by their Family and Consumer Science Instructor. “We’re thrilled to offer talented high school culinary students a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work alongside some of the best chefs in the Midwest,” said Connie Fedor, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Restaurant Association Education Foundation which administers the Wisconsin ProStart program. “This experience and others provided by the ProStart program ignite students’ passion for careers in the restaurant and hospitality industry.” Friends of James Beard Chef Invitational Sand Valley Golf Resort in Nekoosa, Wisconsin will be hosting the Friends of James Beard Chef Invitational, a weekend-long food affair from Friday, March 3 through Sunday, March 5. Proceeds from the event benefit the James Beard Foundation and Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. The Wisconsin ProStart program has been in existence since 1997 and is led by the Wisconsin Restaurant Association Education Foundation, a 501(c)3 charitable organization. ProStart is offered in more than 115 Wisconsin high schools, annually igniting 8,400 students’ passion for the hospitality industry and empowering them through training, mentorships, networking, competition and experiential learning opportunities.
